One Year Later…..

7 Dec

Just when you think all pain has subsided you find yourself waking up at 5AM one year later with the feeling of pain and sadness washing over you like a cold Dec. shower.

For those of you who have been reading my blog for the past  year or so you know what today is and for those of you who just recently have stumbled upon my blog you can catch up on my past here

Today is the one year anniversary of my darling little Tiki Tiki’s passing. Tiki Tiki had Hydrocephalus and on Dec 7th 2010 at 5 Am he passed away in my arms.

All week I’ve found myself in such a foul, cranky mood not knowing why, some days it goes as far as giving me migraines. I think I know why now.

Rest in peace my Tiki Tiki, you are missed so very much even thou you were taken away from us you will forever live in our hearts.

The smallest man that forever stole my heart.

A Tiki Tiki Tribute

8 Feb

For the past two months I have been working on making a video to honor Little Tiki Tiki. It took me a long time to complete because I was only able to work on it for a couple of days at a time. I found myself crying to much as I went thru hundreds upon hundreds of the pictures we had taken of  him ……  On a good day I would go thru the photos trying to choose the best ones of him then  I would start to feel the warmth of my tears running down my face and the tightening of my chest to the point that I would have to stop working on my project and take some time off, days later I would find myself able to come back and continue working on the video having to stop once again because I just couldn’t handle the pain.

I did finally finish his video and this is the end result.

Time and Pain

20 Jan

Since the passing of Tiki Tiki I have ask’d myself several times if my pain will ever go away… I know that the intense grief over the loss of a pet is normal and natural. Don’t let anyone tell you that it’s silly, crazy, or overly sentimental to grieve! But when does it stop hurting so much?

People who don’t understand the pet/owner bond may not understand this pain.

During the months I spent with Tiki Tiki he became a significant and constant part of my life. He was a source of comfort and companionship, of unconditional love and acceptance, of fun and joy and I find myself devastated by the loss of such a relationship.

So I’ll let time pass me by as I wait patiently for the feeling of emptiness to go away, for the lump that forms in my throat every time I see his pictures to stop forming. I wait for the time to come when I can laugh at his memories and not cry.

Tiki Tiki The Fearless (Update)

18 Nov

Sept 9th 2010 was the first day that Tiki Tiki started showing signs of being sicky. He was diagnosed with having Hydrocephalus.

“Hydrocephalus is the accumulation of excess cerebrospinal fluid in the brain and is not normal for any breed, nor is it curable. It’s also known as “water on the brain”. When Fluid accumulates in the brain, it compresses the brain against the skull.”   Signs or symptoms include:

  • Crying out
  • Hyperexcitability
  • Extreme dullness
  • Seizures
  • Visual or auditory impairment
  • Spastic or clumsy walking
  • Circling
  • Head tilt
  • Abnormal eye movements
  • No motor skills

On his last vet visit it was discovered that he also had a heart murmur, was missing a rib and a half plus his lungs make a clicking sound when he breaths. Poor guy just can’t get a break.

From the sudden moment Tiki Tiki showed signs of sickness, his motor skills went from being a normal running puppy to not being able to stand up on his own at all.  Master and I are his feet. Tiki Tiki, being a smart little guy, has taught us how to speak doggy. He now can tell us when he needs to use the bathroom or wants to be picked up or is ready to be fed.  Some days are better then others.  Some days he wakes up with lots of energy and sit up or tries to stand up. Other days he acts like a little rag doll and sleeps all day.

These past two days have been really good to him. He has had much more energy and  has been standing up for minutes at a time  (insert clapping here). What seems like a normal everyday thing for puppies his age is a big accomplishment for him.

In every other way Tiki Tiki is a normal an extra sweet, loveable and  adorable puppy. He enjoys being held and kissed and Loves to snack!  Especially whipped cream and chicken; but not together. He will bark at strangers when they walk in or growl at Evilcat for getting too close. He can even play with Peanut in his bed .

O Romeo, Romeo, wherefore art thou Romeo?

    17 Nov

Have you ever wanted the earth to open up and eat you up? I have? A couple of evenings ago as I was doing what I do best, minding my own business, going on my merry way with a skip in my walk and a song in my head (la la la la). Yes I was in a good mood!  This was my last stop and after here I could head on back to the office where my Tiki Tiki would see me and act like the greatest thing in the world just walked thru the door. So I’m getting out of the elevator and walking thru the crowd of people who are also ending their day at work and are headed home. I skip toward to the guard desk to return my elevator pass, when out of no where with no warning at all I hear it….

    “PKitass I LOVE YOUUU!”

What? Did I just hear my name yelled out? I turn left…. I turn right… Did anyone else hear this or was I just going mad? Had the separation from my Tiki Tiki affected me so badly that I was starting to hear things? Then I hear it again…..

    “PKitass I LOVE YOUUU!”

Nope! I’m sure I heard correctly this time! And as a matter of fact, so did everyone else. Everyone, and I mean EVERYONE,  turned around to look at all the security guards and valet personnel.  Apparently some love struck, albeit misguided soul, had seen me in the security cameras and had decided that it would be so hilarious to publicly broadcast his love for me over the building’s two way radio system. I didn’t think much of it… Who would really know that it was me anyway! Unfortunately, the 3 security guard and valet guy walking towards me laughing and holding up their radios somewhat announced to the entire building that the message was for me.

Needless to say my face turned a nice crimson red as I searched for the nearest exit and ran out of there leaving just a cartoon cut out of myself and sea of laughter behind me.

    A Tiki Tiki Tale:

My outing last Saturday was fun. Even tho we didn’t find me a sweater it was still lots of fun. I’ll let my pictures tell the story.

    Tiki Tiki is VIP

    1 Oct

Tiki Tiki seems to have his good days and his not so great days .  There are days when he wakes up and he looks like a frat boy just getting home from an all nighter, stumbling across the floor to get to his favorite bed in the kitchen and spending all day sleeping  just waking up to get a drink of water and some food.  Mind you he doesn’t seem to be in any pain what so ever.  Just very tired or hung over.  My theory is this Master is secretly having him sneak out at night and using him as his wing man.  It makes perfect sense what better wingman then Tiki Tiki? Who, male or female, would be able to resist the powers of Tiki Tiki?  Tiki tiki’s powers, of course, are used to get into places without a reservation; there isn’t a red velvet rope that can hold him back. He is always on the list. Together, Master and Tiki Tiki, are dining and wine’ing at the best restaurants in town till the wee hours of the night.

Yes it all makes perfect sense now. This is what is going on that’s why some days he seems so tired. I’ll have to set down a couple of rules with Master

    1. Don’t keep him out to late.
    2. Only 2 times per week
    3.  Bring back a doggy bag.

    Bitch Betta Have My Monie

    17 Sep

I have a twitter problem account and follow a few people I deem interesting on it. I have the text alert function set up for some of the people I follow; there are some tweets I just don’t want to miss! Then again, I think I might want to start turning off the twitter text alert on my phone at night.  Some of the people I follow are on different time zones and I end up getting text alerts as early as 3:30 AM!  Yes, crazy me will quickly glance at it (no matter what time) to make sure it isn’t a family emergency text or maybe, even more importantly, work related.  However, taking cough syrup and getting these texts at odd hours can have an odd effect on a person.  For example the other  night (more like 5AM in the morning) I ended up having a peculiarly bizarre dream with Catherinette Singleton!  I can’t remember the details, but I’m pretty sure it had something to do with Catherinette’s love life.

Something to the effect of getting my money….  I had a feathered fedora hat and some cool shoes with live goldfish in the heels! Bitch better have my money!!! So with the constant draining tension and anxiety of taking care of poor sickly Tiki Tiki, my coughing and my outrageously entertaining dreams, I haven’t gotten much sleep at night. So for now, if you’ll excuse me I’m going to try to take a nap and go to dreamland. I’m going to put some baby powder on my hands before I dose off just in case I see Caterinette in my dream again. This pimp gots to keep his hoe in check! Snap!

    A Tiki Tiki Post

    15 Sep

Last Thursday night Tiki Tiki was taken to the emergency room. All of a sudden, without cause, rhyme or reason, his health drastically changed! He became lethargic, listless and dehydrated within hours.  At first I thought he had eaten something he shouldn’t have.  Then I thought something had fallen on him causing him to be in pain.  We took him to the Vet ER at 11:45 at night. The X-rays taken showed nothing foreign stuck inside his stomach or intestines nor did they show any broken bones.  After spending 2 hours at the clinic, the first Vet didn’t seem to know much about what was wrong and could only hypothesize with several “it might be this” or “it might be that”.  After all that, with X-rays and examinations, his only contribution was to send us home with “Nutri-Cal” a gelatinous cat and dog vitamin supplement which has the consistency of tooth paste and is supposed to be high calorie and full of vitamins.  Tiki Tiki is super tiny and one or two days of not eating properly makes his weight loss very noticeable.  Seeing no improvement over the weekend and because he is very tiny we thought it best to get a second opinion and take Tiki Tiki to another vet.

The second vet was much more helpful.  She performed a routine checkup, took vitals, executed some coordination tests and did an ultrasound.  Not being able to derive a definitive result from all her tests, and taking into consideration Tiki Tiki’s apearance and breed, she concluded that Tiki Tiki might have “Hydrocephalus”.

Hydrocephalus is the accumulation of excess cerebrospinal fluid in the brain and is not normal for any breed, nor is it curable. It’s also known as “water on the brain”. When Fluid accumulates in the brain, it compresses the brain against the skull. A puppy can be born with this disorder, or it can be caused by brain infection or head injury later in life. Chihuahuas born with this do not grow normally, often staying extremely tiny.

Unfortunately, there is no real cure for hydrocephalus. Some mild cases can be treated with steroids and diuretics to reduce pressure.

He was prescribed Prednisone and a high calorie diet to bring up his weight again. It might be wishful thinking but yesterday he seemed to have much more energy and strength.

Instead of showing you pictures of him sick, I’ll share some of him before he got sick.
